United States – While over 1,000 people gathered to mourn the tragic loss of 18 lives in a mass shooting in Maine, a violent Halloween weekend unfolded across the United States, resulting in at least 11 additional fatalities.

Data provided by the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to tracking gun violence incidents in the U.S., revealed a concerning surge in “mass shootings” during the weekend. The GVA defines mass shootings as incidents with a minimum of four victims, comprising those either injured or killed, excluding the perpetrator.

In Tampa, Florida, a suspect was taken into custody in connection with a mass shooting that occurred during Halloween festivities, leaving two individuals dead and 18 others injured in the early hours of Sunday. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw described the incident as a “disturbance or fight between two groups,” unfortunately involving a large number of innocent bystanders.

Another tragic shooting unfolded at a party in Texarkana, Texas, on Saturday night, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuring three more, as reported by local sources.

In Indianapolis, Indiana, an overnight shooting at a house party claimed one life and left nine others injured, according to the local police.

Similarly, in Chicago, a suspect was apprehended following a mass shooting at a Halloween party, where 15 people sustained injuries.

Gunfire erupted at a house party in Mansfield, Ohio, causing the deaths of two young individuals and injuring four others. Shockingly, one of the injured victims was as young as 14, according to police reports.

This violent weekend occurred against the backdrop of a solemn gathering in Lewiston, Maine, where more than 1,000 people came together for an evening vigil. The event aimed to commemorate the 18 lives lost in a mass shooting earlier in the week. As the names of the victims from the Wednesday shooting were read aloud, some attendees lowered their heads in grief, while others shed silent tears.

The suspected gunman, Robert Card, was discovered deceased on Friday.
