Woodhaven, Michigan – An alleged team of auto thieves, driving high-performance vehicles, found themselves in a high-speed pursuit and subsequent arrest after stealing five Ford Mustangs and speeding down I-75.

The incident unfolded at approximately midnight on October 27 near the Woodhaven property adjacent to the Flat Rock Assembly Plant at 22400 Vreeland Road.

Woodhaven police received a call alerting them to the thefts, thanks to Ford Motor Co.’s security management, who reported that five brand-new 2024 Mustangs had just been stolen.

A Flat Rock police sergeant was on patrol and informed Woodhaven officers that he had witnessed several vehicles entering northbound I-75 from Gibraltar Road.

The sergeant attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the Mustangs evaded capture, continuing their escape.

Another officer joined the chase on northbound I-75 near West Road. Assisting agencies informed him that two more stolen Mustangs were approaching from behind, a sight he spotted in his rearview mirror.

The officer described how the Mustangs rapidly closed in, with one vehicle overtaking him in the far left lane at a high rate of speed.

According to the report, the second stolen vehicle pulled up behind the officer’s vehicle.

In an attempt to slow down the fleeing vehicle, the officer reduced his speed. However, both Mustangs recklessly passed him in the far left lane, disregarding the lights and sirens.

The officer noted that the stolen Mustangs outpaced his patrol car, accelerating beyond his 100 mph speed.

A Flat Rock officer informed law enforcement that one of the vehicles exited the freeway at Dix Ave.

Another officer took the exit to attempt to locate the car and driver.

In the meantime, a Woodhaven officer spotted a white Mustang parked in the lot of a Family Dollar at 2617 Dix Ave.

Approaching cautiously, the officer observed the suspect attempting to flee, running through the parking lot and trying to hide behind a dumpster.

The report indicated that the officer drew his weapon and ordered the suspect to the ground. The arrest was made without further incident, and the stolen vehicle was recovered.

Another Flat Rock officer reported that he and fellow officers were following the remaining stolen vehicles, which were continuing on I-75.

An officer stated that he had one of the vehicles located at the intersection of Dix Ave. The investigation into this daring theft and pursuit is ongoing.
