PONTIAC, MI – A horrifying incident unfolded as a 23-year-old Pontiac man now faces a slew of charges after a terrifying home invasion and assault on a Pontiac woman. Roderick Harris Jr. has been accused of entering the woman’s home without her permission, leading to a traumatic series of events that left the victim with extensive injuries.

According to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, the alleged incident occurred on October 26. Harris is said to have hidden inside the victim’s home, waiting for her to return. Upon her arrival, he launched a brutal attack, using a firearm to beat her and attempting sexual assault, all while menacingly threatening her life. The victim was subsequently trapped inside her own home, subjected to repeated threats.

Despite her injuries, the victim managed to escape and seek help from a neighbor. Her bravery eventually led to the arrest of Roderick Harris Jr. on Thursday, following a tense three-and-a-half-hour standoff with the police.

Harris appeared in court on Friday, where he was arraigned on multiple charges, including torture, home invasion, unlawful imprisonment, assault with the intent to do great bodily harm, attempted sexual assault, and felonious assault. Pontiac District Judge Jeremy Bowie denied bond and ordered Harris to be held at the Oakland County Jail. If convicted, Harris faces a potential life sentence.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald expressed her commitment to public safety, stating, “All of us deserve to be safe in our homes. Crimes of such brutal violence inflict physical and psychological wounds on victims, and they rob all of us of our sense of security. Public safety is my top priority, and my office will prosecute those who perpetrate violent crime and seek justice for this victim and for the entire community.”
