Bobby Ferguson, a contractor previously convicted in a major bribery and bid-rigging scheme alongside former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, has resurfaced in the news as the city of Detroit cancels $1 million in demolition contracts awarded to a firm owned by Ferguson’s daughter, Bianca Bush.
In 2013, Ferguson was sentenced to 21 years in prison, while Kilpatrick received a 28-year sentence for their involvement in the scandal. However, in 2021, former President Donald Trump commuted Kilpatrick’s sentence after nearly eight years in prison, and soon after, the sentencing judge released Ferguson.
The recent cancellation of contracts, as reported by BridgeDetroit, stems from concerns that Ferguson may have been connected to the company and potentially profiting from the awarded work. The city cited his outstanding restitution in his criminal case as a disqualifying factor for holding contracts with the city.
Federal authorities have alleged that Ferguson has attempted to hide income and assets to evade paying the $2.4 million he owes the city in restitution for his previous crimes.
Notably, the daughter’s company shares a business address with Ferguson’s company on Wyoming Street in Detroit, according to BridgeDetroit’s report. This development underscores the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the former contractor’s financial activities and business dealings.
