Michigan State Police successfully apprehended a 29-year-old Detroit man early Wednesday after he allegedly stole a Corvette, sparking a brief chase on Interstate 94.
The incident unfolded when troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop with one patrol car in front and another behind the stolen Corvette, which was traveling east on Interstate 94 from Lonyo, according to a statement from the MSP Second District.
In an attempt to evade authorities, the suspect sideswiped the patrol car in front of him and continued to flee east on I-94 in the stolen Corvette, reaching speeds that prompted the pursuit, as outlined in the MSP statement.
As the damaged Corvette slowed to nearly 60 miles per hour near Trumbull, troopers strategically boxed the vehicle in, effectively bringing the chase to an end. Subsequently, the 29-year-old suspect was arrested, and MSP lodged him with Canton Township police.
While awaiting a prosecutor’s review for potential charges, the Canton police, reached for comment on Wednesday, declined to provide additional details regarding the ongoing investigation.
This incident underscores the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in swiftly responding to criminal activities and ensuring the safety of the public on Michigan roadways. Further updates on charges and legal proceedings are anticipated pending the prosecutor’s review.
