42-year-old Darci Repine from Harper Woods has been charged in connection with a fatal accident that claimed the life of a wheelchair-bound victim over the weekend.
The incident unfolded on Sunday in Harrison Township near Metro Parkway when Repine, allegedly under the influence, struck an individual who was crossing the roadway in a wheelchair. The collision resulted in critical injuries to the victim, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and medical personnel.
Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered two nurses already administering CPR to the injured individual. Despite their valiant efforts, the victim’s condition remained severe. Deputies took over chest compressions until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived to transport the victim to the hospital. Tragically, the individual was later pronounced dead.
In a court appearance on Monday, Repine faced charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing death—a grave offense carrying a 15-year felony penalty. The prosecution argued that Repine was inebriated at the time of the incident, intensifying the severity of the charges.
The arraignment took place in Clinton Township District Court, where Repine was granted a $50,000 personal bond. Her next court hearing is scheduled for November 27, marking a solemn continuation of the legal proceedings surrounding this heart-wrenching incident.
The community is left grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event, emphasizing the importance of responsible and sober driving to prevent such devastating consequences on our roadways.
