Detroit, MI – Jamere Miller, the Inkster man who pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Patrice Wilson, his ex-girlfriend, has received his sentence. Miller, 36, was sentenced to 35-60 years in prison on Tuesday for the murder, which occurred earlier this year.
The tragic incident took place shortly before 8 a.m. on May 13, as Patrice Wilson, 29, was leaving her shift as a nurse at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Miller, disguised with a woman’s wig, hat, and glasses, waited for her outside the hospital on St. Antoine Street.
As Wilson got into her car after her shift, Miller approached the back passenger side of her SUV and fired multiple shots, resulting in her fatal injuries. He then took the driver’s seat and fled the scene.
Wilson’s lifeless body was discovered in the back of her SUV in Novi later that day. Miller turned himself in to Detroit police the following day.
Officials have stated that Wilson was attempting to break off a relationship with Miller that she knew was unhealthy. Miller pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder on October 10. As part of the plea deal, charges of first-degree and felony murder, along with one count of carjacking, one count of armed robbery, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and five counts of felony firearm were dismissed.
“Patrice Wilson, by all accounts, was a hardworking woman, a great mother, a great family person, and well respected in her job as a nurse at the Detroit Medical Center. She was simply trying to live her life, work hard, and break off a relationship that she knew was not good for her,” said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy at the time of Miller’s arraignment in June.
Reports in the weeks following Wilson’s murder revealed that Miller had ties to a 2011 missing person case involving the mother of his son, who was pregnant with their second child at the time. That case remains unsolved.
