A road rage altercation on I-94 escalated to shots being fired, prompting Michigan State Police to seek information from potential witnesses.
Around 5 p.m. on December 1, a driver contacted 911, reporting that they suspected their vehicle had been shot by another driver on I-94, just east of the I-96 freeway. Troopers swiftly responded, meeting with the caller at Lonyo and I-94 to gather details.
The caller explained that the road rage incident involved a white Dodge Durango. According to the caller, while they were in the right lane, the Durango driver exited onto I-96, allegedly brandishing a pistol from the driver’s side window and firing one round. Fortunately, the bullet did not hit the caller’s vehicle, and no injuries were reported.
Despite the caller being unable to provide the Durango’s license plate number, troopers conducted an evidence sweep in the area and recovered a single casing. First Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police expressed frustration, stating, “It is ridiculous how many drivers are getting into arguments over driving,” emphasizing the danger posed by individuals carrying firearms during such disputes.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with troopers urging any witnesses to come forward and share information about the exchange. Those with details relevant to the case are encouraged to contact the Michigan State Police at (734) 287-5000. Authorities underscore the importance of public cooperation in ensuring road safety amid escalating incidents of road rage.
