WARREN, Mich. (FOX 2) – An argument that escalated at a local LA Fitness in Warren culminated in shots being fired in the gym’s parking lot, with two individuals now in custody, as confirmed by local police.
The incident unfolded at approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday and transpired at the LA Fitness facility situated on Mound Road, in close proximity to the General Motors Tech Center in Warren.
According to gym staff, the dispute initially began on the basketball court. It is alleged that a physical altercation occurred when one player struck another while on the court. The disagreement then spilled outside into the gym’s parking lot, leading to the discharge of a firearm.
A vigilant witness provided Fox 2 with video footage showing a man being taken into custody, with Warren police officers visibly on high alert.
Warren’s Police Commissioner has reported that no injuries were sustained as a result of the gunfire incident. Furthermore, one of the two individuals apprehended possessed a valid concealed carry permit, according to police statements.
In the aftermath of the incident, law enforcement towed two vehicles from the scene. Authorities suspect that these vehicles may have been struck during the shooting, adding to the complexity of the investigation.
“They get caught up in their feelings, and they want to make it more personal than what it is,” remarked LA Fitness member DC Thomas. “It’s just a game,” he emphasized, shedding light on the emotional underpinnings of the altercation.
