Chesterfield Township, MI – Chesterfield Township police have officially charged a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on August 29.
The incident initially came to the attention of law enforcement when officers were called to the I-94 overpass near Cotton Road after an individual reported spotting someone lying in a grassy area. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the lifeless body of a 42-year-old man from Chesterfield Township.
In September, authorities disclosed that a suspect had been identified and was actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Shane Flaherty, a 25-year-old resident of Chesterfield Township, has now been formally charged in relation to the hit-and-run. Flaherty faces charges of “failure to stop at the scene of an accident – when at fault – resulting in death.”
As of the latest update, Flaherty has been released on a $10,000 personal bond and is awaiting further court proceedings. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with additional information regarding this case to contact the Chesterfield Township Police Department at 586-949-3829.
