Oakland County, Michigan – A 75-year-old man, who had been reported missing, tragically lost his life in a fatal crash in an I-75 construction zone in Oakland County. The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. on a Sunday near Springfield Township, as the man was driving south on I-75 near Rattalee Lake Road, according to the Michigan State Police.
The particular section of the freeway had been closed for weekend construction, as per the Michigan State Police. Unfortunately, the man, whose name and hometown were not disclosed, is believed to have driven his Volkswagen Tiguan into the southbound lanes within the closed portion of I-75. He ventured through a section of the road that was missing a portion of concrete, resulting in a roughly 1.5-foot drop-off, according to officials.
The impact of this ill-fated incident was severe enough to cause substantial damage to the vehicle and fatal injuries to the driver. Tragically, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash.
Authorities have not yet disclosed when the man was first reported missing. Michigan State Police First Lieutenant Mike Shaw expressed his condolences, saying, “Our condolences go out to this gentleman’s family and friends.”
Shaw further mentioned that the on-scene investigation has been completed, and authorities are now awaiting the medical examiner’s report.
